Allied invasion of 1944. So five years ago, you wrote a piece for our magazine arguing that it was

time to silence the D-Day Doubters. Having written your new book, is that an opinion you still hold?

Absolutely. And I think what happened in the intervening five years is I didn't really feel that the doubters had been silenced. And I was still hearing the same worn old narrative. And I think one of the problems is that, you know, the D-Day story is a very familiar one in the Normandy campaign. It's one that's been written about Adphanitum. It's one that's been the subject of God knows how many documentaries and movies and all the rest of it.

Hollywood's taken over quite a big way, I think, the narrative of it. It's very American-dominated.

And, you know, distortions have crept in. And, you know, I just think a lot of these myths have grown up because of its very familiarity.
