Hey, this is Trey. Thank you for joining us for a Tuesday edition of our podcast.

I am not in South Carolina.

I am in New York on a book tour for the color of death.

And I am going to say something that will immediately make every mom in the world roll their eyes.

I have never given birth to anything, so I have no idea what that feels like.

In fact, if I could share a story that makes my wife still angry to this day, 32 years ago,

when she gave birth to our son Watson, I looked at her shortly after

he was born and said, you know what, honey, there's no sense in both of us being tired.

Why don't I go back to the townhouse and sleep so I am well rested and can help you tomorrow. They had wheeled a chair

in there for me to sleep with my wife and newborn son, and I convinced her that I should go

sleep in our bed and left her up there in the hospital by herself with our newborn. I did get a good night's sleep, though. So, I mean,

the story had a happy ending, I guess. For me, I'm not sure she were the nurses could believe

that I really did that. So what does that have to do with the book? I don't know what it's like

to get birth to a child, but the closest I probably will ever come is when you work on something, in this case for about 10 years, and it finally comes to fruition.

In a sense, you are giving birth to a creative work.

They're different. They're invented. I do name some of the characters in honor of people that

helped me when I really was a prosecutor,
