0:14.7	with some sad news that broke overnight. Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas
0:19.4	has died after a battle with cancer.
0:21.6	She was 74 years old. Back in June, she announced that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic
0:26.6	cancer and was undergoing treatment. Jackson Lee, who was born in New York City, served the people
0:32.0	of Texas for more than 30 years, beginning her political career on Houston City Council,
0:36.9	and then serving in the House of Representatives since 1995.
0:41.1	Throughout her tenure, she served on several important committees, including the judiciary,
0:45.8	Homeland Security, and Budget.
0:47.7	She was also a fierce and outspoken advocate for the interests of Black Americans.
