Jeremiah chapter 31, verses 31 through 34.

This is one of the most significant passages, not just in Jeremiah, but in all of the Old Testament,

as we see a promise of a New Testament, a new covenant to come.

So let's listen to these words and then we'll think about them and pray according to them.

Jeremiah 31 verses 31 through 34.

Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, and I will make a new covenant with the

house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers

on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.

My covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the House of Israel after those days, declares the

Lord. I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts, and I will be their

God, and they shall be my people, and no longer shall each one teach

his neighbor, and each his brother saying know the Lord, for they shall all know me, from the least

of them to the greatest, declares the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember

their sin no more. Oh, there's so much here that God was promising in the middle of such a

dark, difficult time. Even that, we can just pray according to that to praise God for his grace

and his promises that sustain us and get us through dark, difficult times that promise us that

what we're experiencing in suffering

and even discipline for our sin when we trust in God is not the end of the story.

But the specific promise here is that God is going to make a new covenant with all who will

trust in him to be their husband in a much grander way than even the picture we see in the Old Testament,
