I'm Bob Carlson, and this is UnFictional.

UnFictional is a program of stories and original documentaries, and are people most of us really who build

stuff out of necessity a small home improvement project perhaps or assembling an a key

a bookshelf but there are others like the men in today's stories

who have a need to build, are compelled to build, they're obsessed and healed by the act of

creation.

you'll find what can only be described as a mansion in the trees.

15,500 square feet, eight stories high.

It spans seven trees.

It's a tree house, the world's largest tree house. There's a staircase

that winds around the main tree and it leads you into a labyrinth of over 40 rooms

in secret nooks. There's a chapel that doubles as a basketball court.

It was built with recycled wood from old barns and construction sites without a blueprint

by one man over 11 years.

At one time it was one of Tennessee's top tourist attractions.

Hundreds of thousands of people visited the treehouse

even though it was never formally

advertised and there was no admission charge.
