Summary

A nine year old motherless girl in a small frontier community keeps close watch on her 5 plain little dolls with the help of a number of men in the community who sometimes rescue the lost dolls from snowbanks and roadsides. When the day comes that she has to part to attend a girls school and leave her dolls behind, the men who wind up caring for the dolls wait anxiously for some word from her to reach them. 0:34.2	Heggordorn. Today another great story from Brett Hart called the mother of five. Our
0:40.8	central character in this story is a little girl. She's very poor and the one
0:45.0	possession she has is actually five little nine pins which if you picture a
0:49.6	large wooden clothes pin with a round head and little faces painted on. You can
0:55.0	imagine a poor little girl's joy at being able to carry around her five babies.

1:06.5	She was a mother,
1:15.0	five children, although her own age was barely nine.
1:19.0	Two of these children were twins,
1:21.0	and she generally alluded to them as Mr. Amplatch's children,
1:25.0	referring to an exceedingly respectable gentleman in the next settlement who,
1:29.0	I have reason to believe, had never set eyes on her or them.
1:36.0	The twins were quite naturally alike, having been in a previous state of existence two nine
1:40.6	pins and were still somewhat vague and didn inchoate below their low shoulders in their
1:44.8	long clothes, but were also firm and globular about the head, and they were not wanting those
1:50.2	who professed to see in this an unmistakable resemblance to their reputed father.
1:55.6	The other children were dolls of different ages, sex and condition, but the twins may be said
2:00.4	to have been distinctly her own conception, yet such was her admirable and
2:05.2	impartial maternity that she never made any difference between them.
2:09.6	The Amplaches children was a description, rather than a distinction. She was herself the motherless
