I had been so focused I think on how other people were going to react and I thought that's not what this is about at all.

This is a kid that is in real pain from the inside and when you see that and feel it for me that was that was when I got the clarity

How does change really happen?

This week I'm wondering about this pretty spectacular kid I know, Alex, who was born a girl and felt pretty

sure pretty young that that wasn't who he was at all. I asked him if he would come talk to me about the experience of discovering

himself and then I also asked if his mom would come to tell the story from her point of view.

I feel very lucky that they were willing to be so forthcoming

about something so personal so that we might all of us think and feel differently about this very big

change we see all around us in our culture.
