We were stunned by disbelief one Thursday morning in May of 1971.

As we dug into the article, we discovered that it was the work of a madman north of us along

the Feather River, who had bludgeoned to death 12 and proved to be more than 12 people

another act of unbelievable violence that occurred on the 1st of August, 1966.

That was that hot Texas morning when Charles Whitman took up to the observation deck of the

University of Texas Library Tower, a portable armory.

And before he finished his work and was killed himself, he had shot to death down below

some 16 innocent pedestrians. As if that were not enough, we raced back in our mind a few months
