His erratic behavior continues with troubling new attacks on the Pope.

Last night, he named-checked Pope Leo online, pushing back against the pontiff's criticism of the war.

And rather than caution the President, the White House's resident Catholic, J.D.

Vance, escalated those attacks, telling a crowd of young conservatives that Pope Leo should be,

quote, careful when talking about theology. And here's how Speaker Mike Johnson defending both Trump

and Vance. A pontiff or any religious leader can say anything they want, but obviously if you

wade into political waters, I think you should expect some political response.

It is a very well-settled matter of Christian theology.

There's something called the Just War Doctrine.

There's a time to every purpose under heaven.

I don't know what the hell that is because when you go and look at the catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, and I can specifically cite for you, Mr. Speaker, section 2307 to 2317, it lays out

exactly the framing for a just war. And there's nothing about it under heaven or anything like that.

What it specifically refers to is the idea that this is a moral framework.

And it's this concept called use ad bellum, which means right to go to war.

And what it requires, all these things have to be met.

And this is what the Pope has been trying to get it folks to understand.

Just cause, typically self-defense against aggression, legitimate authority declared by proper

political authority.

Hmm, Congress, right intention, not revenge, conquest, or domination, last resort.

All peaceful options are exhausted.

Probability of success, not futile bloodshed, and certainly proportionality.
