Success has many fathers, and that's especially true in Hollywood, where all those

fathers are insanely petty and insecure, and most of them have publicists.

I'm talking about a Minecraft movie, of course.

It opened to an amazing 163 million domestic this weekend, beating Super Mario Brothers for the biggest video game

adaptation opening, and by far the biggest of the year, nearly doubled the latest Marvel movie.

So why was it so big? Was it Jack Black, who has quietly become a legit movie star for kids,

or Jason Mamoa? Was it the expert execution of director Jared Hess or the

seven credited screenwriters? Or was it the marketing campaign by Warner Brothers and legendary?

No disrespect to all of those I just mentioned, but no, the Minecraft success is a triumph of

intellectual property. 200 million people have played Minecraft,

most of kids, and shocker, many of those Gen Xers and Gen Alphas

were ready to show up for a big budget movie version of the game.

It's obviously no secret that IP works at the box office.
