We talk a lot on issues, et cetera, about how important marriage is, not only as a divinely

ordained institution, God's idea, his invention, but also it's very important in terms of just our everyday life.

It is, as we Lutherans firmly believe, the foundation of all civil authority, and it is the

place where God begins to teach us, catechize us, in not only the Fourth Command about father and mother,

but also about how we are to live our entire lives and especially to be brought up in the

nurture and admonition of the Lord. So to have a course in college on marriage would seem a no-brainer,

but I hadn't thought about it before. Joining us to talk about teaching a marriage course in college, Dr. Andrea Gurney.

She's a licensed clinical psychologist, professor of psychology at Westmont College,

creator of Marriage Boot Camp, author of Reimagining Your Love Story,

Biblical and Psychological Practices for Healthy Relationships,

and a recent column for the Institute for Family Studies

titled Why Marriage 101 Should Be a Required College course. Dr. Gurney, welcome.

Well, thank you so much, Todd. It's great to be here. Why are so many young people cynical

about marriage? Ooh, well, we're starting with a loaded question, aren't we?

I mean, that's a great one.

And, you know, I think there's lots of different reasons.
