Summary

The entire Cane and Rinse team takes an epic look back at 2017 to reflect on all of the games that released that year that they had the opportunity to play. These are fresh opinions and not the thorough, historical perspective that the team usually takes, but consider this a sampling plate of some our favourite (and sometimes least favourite) 2017 games! A Look Back at 2017 was edited by Ryan Hamann (@InsrtCoins)

Hello everybody and welcome to a cane and rinse end of year special, marking the gaming year that was 2017, which I feel like I personally didn't have much to do with.

0:30.4

I'm Leon Cox and I'm here with Ryan Heyman.

0:32.8

Hello, Ryan.

0:33.4

Hey, you say the gaming year as if it's some kind of like alternate calendar, like you'd get a fiscal year, which runs from like March to March. Where does the gaming year begin and end for you? Well, this is it. And this is actually why I personally often shied away from the whole sort of games of the year thing, because really it is kind of an arbitrary cutoff point. Now, and I think marking things in time is, you know, it makes sense.

0:56.3

It makes sense for us as humans to do it.

0:58.0

But I always have a bit of a problem with sort of games of the year type stuff, partly because

1:01.5

of the whole sort of ranking chalk against cheese and all that sort of thing.

1:04.8

So that's why we don't do that at Cater Rints.

1:06.8

But also just because, yeah, just because a game comes out in, say, early December, it never gets the same amount of kind of time and attention as something that came out in January.

1:15.6

And also games are released in certain months for certain reasons.

1:19.4

And so, of course, the back of the year tends to be overloaded.

1:22.6

And actually, you know, I think by any standard, 2017 was a very strong year of video game releases, regardless

1:30.7

of what formats you were playing on, what your tastes are.

1:33.8

I think we've seen some really, really great stuff.

1:36.4

And I think, Ryan, so what you've done for us, and thank you for this, you organized,

1:40.7

scheduled, put together this epic podcast. So I haven't heard any of this. So I took a

1:47.7

backseat for this for multiple reasons. One, what I was just talking about. Two, I really needed

1:51.9

a break because I probably do the most podcasting out of all of us. And just needed some time

1:58.5

away to recharge. And yeah, so I guess this is going to be a long show coming up for our listeners of discussion about the gaming year.

2:08.2

So highs and lows from the whole team.

2:10.3

I always really enjoyed listening to those specials we used to do with Midnight Resistance and all the other kind of buddy podcasts. Yeah, computer game show, JoyPod, Game Adort, we used to do with Midnight Resistance and all the other kind of buddy podcasts.

2:18.6

Yeah, computer game show, JoyPod, Game Adort, we used to do them.
