You know when this project's a gladysys Books and Wine started, I would have never imagined my wildest dreams that we'd have a room full of so many beautiful black, amazing queer folks, black folks who are interested in deconstruction, interested in reclaiming spirituality. And we'd have a leader like Juju, who has been at the forefront of that for us.

I think that, you know, just to give you all a little bit of information about Gladys and who we are and also who I am.

What I do love is black women, that black women have saved my life. Their writing has called me home. Their work and their voice has been a part of how I've learned to love myself and my own personal liberation. And it means so much to have you all here tonight, to have juju here tonight and doing this all under the gaze of that black lady there, which is my grandmother

Gladys. Yes, yes. People ask if my grandmother was a big reader, and the truth is she wasn't.

She was a black woman from Bahalia, Mississippi, who didn't finish fifth grade. But she was

very big on hospitality, no matter who you were, a deacon, an usher, a dope boy, you know,

someone who's struggling with addiction. If you came to her home, you were going to get love,

respect, and adoration because that spirit of hospitality has always been what has helped us
