In chapter 15, Jesus is giving his final message before his crucifixion to his

disciples. They've gathered with them in the upper room for final understanding and instruction

in one of the most poetic passages in scripture.

We find Jesus using the vine and the branches to describe the relationship of his people to him

and how that relationship is to work, how it is fostered,

grown, and developed,

particularly in light of the fact that he will be leaving soon.

He begins by saying that he is the true vine and my father is the vine dresser.

So he uses a great vineyard to describe our Christian experience with him. He calls himself genuine, true, authentic. That is,

in opposition to the current state of Judaism and the Jewish leaders who were leading the

people astray from God because they were rejecting Christ. Any rejection of Christ is a rejection of the true God.

And he says, he is the true vine.

He is the real deal.
