Washington, D.C. I'm Mark Stout, historian of the museum. I'm a PhD

author and historian who served for 13 years as an analyst in the US

intelligence community. Every month the museum brings you interesting talks

with authors,

scholars, and practitioners who has something to do with the world of

intelligence and espionage.

We're fortunate to have as our guest today Mark Zaid. Mark is one of the

country's most prominent national security lawyers. He works here in

Washington and does a lot of legal work regarding whistleblowers, security clearance cases, and

cases, legal cases that deal in one way or another with the intelligence community.

Among his clients have been a number of people who've spoken here at the International Spy Museum.

Tony Schaefer, for instance, author of Operation Dark Heart, a memoir about Mr. Schaefer's time in

Afghanistan that the government decided was classified so they bought all

ten thousand copies of the book.

Gary Berenson, I believe actually, a CIA officer, one of the first, if not the first, into and

Berenson I believe actually a CIA officer one of the first if not the first into Afghanistan in 2001

an author of the book, Drawbreaker and also a Jeffrey Sterling who was pursued by the government for purportedly

having leaked information classified information to journalist James

Rison and also John Kiryaku who has just recently reported to

federal prison for releasing classified information.
