Summary
In 'A LADIES MAN a group of men taking a slow steamer encounter 15 young ladies who are being sheltered by a headmistress nicknamed "the dragon" and they try to find ways to break the ice. In "A CASE OF FEVER" a older doctor aboard a passenger ship shares a past experience from the American west with his younger crewmates.

| 0:54.7 | call the tub. This does not sound very flattering to the steamer, but I must say the tub was |
| 1:00.9 | a comfortable old boat as everybody will testify who has ever taken a |
| 1:04.8 | voyage in her. I know a very rich man who can well afford to take the best room and |
| 1:10.0 | the best steamer if he wants to but his preference always is for a slow boat like the tub. |
| 1:16.8 | He says that if you're not in a hurry, a slow boat is preferable to one of the fast new liners |
| 1:21.8 | because you have more individuality there. You get more attention. |
| 1:25.9 | The officers are flattered by your preference for their ship and you are not merely one of a great mob of |
| 1:31.2 | passengers as in a crowded fast liner. The officers on a popular |
| 1:35.9 | big and swift boat are prone to be a trifle snobbish. This is especially the case on the |
| 1:40.8 | particular liner which for the moment stands at the top a |
| 1:44.0 | steamer that has broken the record and is considered the best boat in the Atlantic |
| 1:48.4 | service for the time being. If you get a word from the captain of such a boat, you may consider yourself a peculiarly honored individual. |
| 1:56.0 | And even the purser is apt to answer you very shortly, and make you feel you are but a worm of the dust, |
| 2:02.0 | even though you have paid a very large price for your stateroom. |
