Summary
Some ghost stories begin in abandoned houses or forgotten cemeteries. Beth Darlington’s began on an ordinary street, under a single streetlight, on a night filled with thunder. As a child, she wasn’t thinking about spirits or hauntings—she was simply playing outside with friends, waiting for the storm to pass. But the moment she looked toward the end of the block, everything changed.
A figure stood beneath the glow of the streetlight. Still. Out of place. Dressed in clothing that didn’t belong to their world or their time. The children watched, unsure whether they were seeing a stranger, an illusion… or something that had slipped through from somewhere else. What Beth felt next stayed with her for decades: a rush of cold, a sense of being watched, and a sudden understanding that not every encounter can be dismissed or rationalized.
Beth revisits that night—the moment innocence met the unexplained. Was the figure a wandering spirit? A residual echo of someone long gone? Or a presence that had chosen to reveal itself only to a group of children who didn’t yet know to doubt what they saw? Her experience raises a chilling question: just how thin is the line between our world and theirs?
