Summary

Happy Friday! On today’s episode, Colin Wright, an evolutionary biologist and Contributing Editor at Quillette, joins me to play “Devil’s Advocate”. I do my best to steelman the most common arguments leftists use when advocating for Gender theory, trans issues, and sex education in schools while Colin represents the opposing side. Whose rationale is most compelling? Let me know in the comments! Awesome. Before I step into my role as a leftist and start grilling you on these issues, can you give

1:14.1

people a little bit of your story and your background and how you got to talking about this stuff?

1:18.8

Yeah, sure. As you mentioned, I'm an evolutionary biologist, or maybe I was one. I'm no longer

1:26.9

in academia, so I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with my PhD in evolutionary biology in 2018,

1:35.2

and then I became a postdoc research fellow at Penn State. I was there from 2018 to 2020,

and it was during those times, maybe a little bit before, where I started knowing how

sort of noticing how the conversation around what sex is, what males and females are,

1:54.1

and gender sort of we're getting all muddled and people were saying things like sex is a spectrum

categories, and I was always pretty well grounded in biology, and I saw people that were making these

2:10.6

claims that just were very wrong. They just weren't correct, and so I started writing about this stuff,

2:17.5

and I didn't realize how much of a hornet's nest was out there that I was actually whacking at,
