we observe Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey. It was definitely no walk in the park.

These men were faced with scary opposition, but they refused to cave. So what are the implications

for us in 2025 as we deal with a defiant world?

We're doing a biographical series on the life and times of Paul, and that has taken us into the book of Acts, of course.

And I want to read a few excerpts from the 13th chapter, and then just three or four verses from the 14th.

let's begin at verse 4. I'll read down through verse 12 and then we'll skip over to verse 42

through 46 and then three verses out of through 4 out of chapter 14. But for now, chapter 13 of Acts, beginning at verse 4.

So being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed

to Cyprus.

And when they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews.

They also had John as their helper.

And when they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician,

a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar Jesus, who was with the proconsul

surges Paulus, a man of intelligence. The man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the

word of God. But Elimus, the magician, for so his name is translated, was opposing them, seeking to turn the

proconsul away from the faith. But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit,

fixed his gaze on him, and said, you who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil,

you enemy of all righteousness, would you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?
