Hello, welcome to the Fun Kids Science Weekly. My name's Dan, thanks for giving us a listen. This week is a social science special. Now social science is absolutely worth checking out. It's kind of concerned with everything really. It's the study of human society and social relationships. Social scientists have a look at human beings, where we come from, where we live, the communities that we live in

and what we do while we're in those communities. They have a look at how we organise ourselves,

why we behave in certain ways as well. We'll learn all about that in this episode. We've got a lot

to get through, so let's crack on. On the way, we'll talk about why we have rules and laws,

also about what you want to be when you grow up and maybe why you want to be that.

We'll also chat about false memory and why sometimes people think people who are alive are actually dead.

That's a bizarre one.

We'll talk about that a little bit later.

First, let's chat about where you live and why it looks that way with Agent Planet.

Agent Planet

The town and country planning acts set a target of 300,000 new homes to be built each year. The act has also established green belts around our cities and towns, where building of new

houses will be controlled to ensure the countryside is not swallowed up. Wow, must have been

hard to plan where to build those new houses. Glad we don't need to worry about that anymore.

The latest projections suggest that we will need over a quarter of a million new homes each year

for at least the next 10 years if the forecast growth in households is to be accommodated.

The UK is currently building only half that number.

A quarter of a million new homes every single year. Where will they be built?

What will happen if we don't build enough?

It's impossible.
