A few weeks ago, we told you how the number of folks

eating fast food inside restaurant dining rooms is declining. That's due to a few factors, changing

customer preferences, enhancements made to drive-thrus, and a focus by many fast food chains on building

more efficient tech-centered locations that shrink the footprint of those dining

rooms. One casualty of all this, besides conversations had in those classic fast food booths,

the self-serve soda machine. Yes, it's true, at least for one major player. Last week,

McDonald's announced it was planning to phase out self-served soda fountains by 2032.

Why, oh, why, would this magical fountain of sugary goodness be disappearing?
