Taylor Hawkins, who is the drummer for Foo Fighters and also a whole lot more.

A frontman, a songwriter, a real flag bearer for whatever was left of the spirit of rock and roll, a true fan, died at the age of 50, and the outpouring from his fellow musicians and fans has really

been overwhelming.

He meant a lot to a whole lot of people, incredibly charismatic and talented guy, just the fact that he more

than held his own as the drummer for Dave Grohl's band for so many years, says

it all. Fue Fighters have canceled all their tour dates. The world is waiting to hear about the cause of Taylor's death. There's a lot of mystery there.

Last year, I was reporting a Foo Fighters cover story, and I went to Taylor Taylor's house hung out with him for a while

he had this rock and roll clubhouse on his property in the guest house behind a

swimming pool just this incredible sort of teenage rock fan's dream. It was also a studio. He had these collages made from old cream magazine covers.

There were posters everywhere. He had these custom drum heads on the wall with pictures of his rock and roll heroes.

There was one poster that Roger Taylor, the drummer of Queen, who was one of his biggest

heroes, had given him.

It advertised to Roger Taylor's solo album.

Taylor Hawkins love rock and roll as much as anyone I've ever met just a

really memorably great guide. He did his entire interview shirtless and

barefoot just wearing board shorts. On the afternoon of that interview a Foo Fighters Club show was looming for that night.

It was their first real show since the pandemic had started.

We started off by talking about how Taylor's son has become a huge Nirvana fan and from there

Taylor traced his whole time in the Foo Fighters and more. So now that he loves

Nirvana, I text it David and tax for God of course but growl I was like I can love Nervyn. I texted Dave, he didn't text me back, of course. But, uh, growl, I was like, I can love Nervana at the end.
