Americans honor the men and women who have given their lives and

service to America's armed forces. And while we are marking those sacrifices that happen in

wartime as well as peacetime, there's one conflict that is especially top of mind this year.

We will do whatever is necessary to achieve our objective in South Vietnam.

Nobody waits for the incoming rounds to stop before collecting the dead or trying to save the wounded.

This is a parade of human misery that never seems to end.

See, this year marks 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War. In fact, just a few weeks ago, veterans marked the anniversary of the fall of Saigon. The day that Vietnam forces from the north took over cities in the south.

Please don't crowd. We'll get everybody in. American troops evacuated. We had effectively lost the war, one of the most morally fraught in this nation's history.

The U.S. gave its best effort, its best weapons, and more than 55,000 of its best men.

And remember, to this day, Vietnam has taken more American lives than any conflict since the world wars.

Thousands upon thousands of American families lost loved ones, and they didn't really get the

thrill of a V-Day to celebrate them.
