All right, Jim. I'm going to start us off. I want to play an artist. I have long been excited about one of the great artists in the Midwest.

Extending and bringing forward the history of house music.

Jalen. Jalen Patton. I think originally from Gary, Indiana, producer and composer.

Associated with that footwork scene. Hypercompetitive, post house music.

You know, provided the soundtrack for footwork competitions in there.

It's kind of like the soundtrack for these amazing dancers.

And if you have not seen a footwork event, it's really worth checking out.

No, that is a new term to me. Is that like the next step beyond stepping music?

Well, no, I mean, footwork has been around for decades actually.

There are people like R.P. Boo and DJ Rashad. I did stories on these folks, these godfathers of the scene back in the 90s.

But the scene is really blossomed in the decades since. It's really kind of flourished from more of a live event type of music.

You know, similar to Wayhip Hop. You started in the parks. Footwork started in the parks in Chicago.

You know, these DJs playing these intricate rhythms and these dancers doing these incredible dance moves on top of it.

Now, artists like Jaylin are taking it to the next level.

It's gone from music that you can play at an outdoor event to accompany dancers to being a genre within itself,

where the dancing can be in your head as you're listening over headphones in a dark and room.

You know, it's like that kind of intricacy and kind of evolution that this music has incorporated into its development over the last decade.

Jaylin started out very much in Thrall with R.P. Boo and DJ Rashad and the founders of the genre.
