0:11.0	I'm Jeff Parrot. Do you view the life of faith more like a reservoir or a river?
0:19.2	Both are bodies of water, yet they're obviously very different from one another. A reservoir is static, its goal is to contain. A river, on the other hand, is dynamic. Its goal is to move into something bigger than itself.
0:34.0	For many of us, we functionally live with a faith that's like a reservoir.
0:39.0	It's about being filled up and containing what we get.
0:42.0	And of course, there are some important ways in which
0:45.5	that's true. Jesus does indeed fill our lives like nothing else can. But when we look at the
0:52.1	Bible's view of the Christian life, we see that we're made to experience
0:56.3	something that's much more like a river. We're invited into a faith that not only moves in us, but through us.
1:04.8	Psalm 40 is a Psalm of David that draws us out of the reservoir mindset
1:09.3	and into a river-like faith.
1:12.1	But before we dive in, let's pray for God's grace to work in us as we engage with this
1:16.9	Psalm. Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of life and breath, for the gift of your word. Jesus help us abide in you as we
1:26.4	engage with your truth. Holy Spirit we ask you to move in and through this time in
1:31.2	Psalm 40.
1:32.9	As we read these words, let these words read us
1:37.0	and change us in Jesus' name.
1:39.7	Amen.
1:41.1	Let's dig into Psalm 40 with the first three verses.
