I'm Brittany Luce, and on the It's Been a Minute podcast, I take the things you and I are both obsessing over

Hello and welcome to normal gossip. I'm your host, Rachel Hampton, and in each episode of this podcast, we're going to bring you an anonymous morsel of gossip from the real world. And as some of you might have guessed from the title of today's episode, today's episode is going to be a little bit different. I will not be telling a gossip story to a guest for reasons that I will be explaining in just a minute,

1:43.8

medical leave, I did not have a stroke. But I do want to take a

1:48.3

minute to talk about something I learned in the ER, which is the acronym B-FAST. The letters stand for

1:54.3

balance, eyes, face, arms, speech, and time to get help. Basically, if you notice symptoms in yourself or someone that include trouble with balance,

2:05.4

blurred or double vision, drooping in the face or arm, and trouble with speech, then go to an ER immediately.

2:11.9

Time is definitely the essence in the event of a stroke, which those are all symptoms of.

2:17.1

What I ended up getting diagnosed with is something called Bell's Palsy, which is inflammation

2:22.3

of the facial nerve whose symptoms can mimic a stroke.

2:25.9

Luckily, my case was fairly mild.
