First of all, could you tell us about your career in the police and how

that started? Well, yeah, I actually became a police officer by accident. I really never had any

intention growing up or anything to be a police officer. I was in the military during the Vietnam

war, and after I was discharged, I got home, I was just looking for a job.

Well, my brother was a police officer at the Nass Police Department, and of course, this is during,

I got out in 1968, and the war were still, I did my four years, but the war were still going on,

so there weren't a whole lot of young men available to serve in the police department, so they

were really looking for people.

My brother suggested, well, come on down, they're hiring, and I needed a job, and I just went down and stayed there for 38 years. It was just one of those things I just think I got dispelled into and turned it to be a great, because the only thing I'd ever really want to be in my life was a writer. I never wanted to be anything else.

My earliest memories, all I wanted to be as a writer.
