Madeline and Charlotte are back with another deep dive episode, this time into the Netflix documentary series America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. The gals watched both seasons — even if you haven’t, you can come along for the journey as The Sports Gossip Show unpacks the complicated dynamics of what it means to be a DCC. 

The TV show follows hopeful Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders through the audition process, into training camp, and, finally, into the NFL season. The practices and game days are grueling, thanks to physically and mentally punishing dances and standards. The women who make the team often have to work several jobs to be able to afford a decent standard of living, and a huge part of the show is the cheerleaders’ fight for better pay. 

The people in the series are fascinating, from the heads of the program, Kelli Finglass and Judy Trammell, to the stars of the show, dancers like Reece, Jada, Armani, Kelly V., Charly, Amanda, and many more. Madeline and Charlotte talk about the tensions between what it means to be a DCC — and, by extension, an American woman — and how to preserve your sense of self. They also talk about what it means to be a Company Woman, how DCC becomes a major part of these cheerleaders’ identities, and the similarities between dancers and athletes.
