Today, two earthquakes have hit Turkey and Syria within 12 hours of each other.

It was in the early hours of Monday morning while people were still sleeping that the tremors started.

In Ghazian tap in southern Turkey, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale had hit

just 11 miles below the ground. And within minutes, it had destroyed almost everything in its path.

A apartment building's crumbled and schools, mosques and hospitals were severely damaged,

thousands of them across southern and central Turkey.

And also into northern Syria, a place that is still so deeply scarred by almost 12 years of civil war.

As far away as Lebanon and in Israel, in Greece and in Cyprus, people felt the tremors too.
