Might be getting to you kind of late, but trans day of visibility is a day when transgender

and non-binary people all around the world recognize

their own visibility. Transgender visibility in the US is at an all-time high in the

media and in the public and it's really a day for allies and

advocates to show up and show support.

Trans Day of Visibility was first founded in 2009 by Rachel Crandall, who is a Michigan-based transgender activist, was intended

to be a day of awareness to celebrate the successes of transgender and

it is a very important day for the LGBTQ community.

11.3% of LGBT adults identify as transgender.

And when it comes to representation in the media, there is only about 29 transgender characters

across primetime broadcast cable and streaming channels but that number is climbing

because recent polls show that one in four say they personally know someone who is

transgender which means the majority of Americans learn about the

transgender community from what they see in entertainment media. Now 62% of

transgender people experience discrimination in the last year.

More than 25% say they have endured significant harm from such experiences.

67% of transgender people say they purposefully change the way they dress and act in order to avoid discrimination.

And that's what always gets to me.
