On March 4th, 2019, a trial began for a case that went cold for 25 years.

And it took just one phone call to knock down that first domino that finally led to an arrest.

He played center on his school's football team, one which made it to the semifinals, graduated from high school in

1988, was engaged with his high school sweetheart, Jody Hots, and in the year 1992, was working

as a bartender at a West Liberty bar owned by his grandmother. By all accounts, he seemed like a typical

guy, who had a pretty normal life, one that was

brutally taken away from him on October 13, 1992. On that evening, 911 operators received a call

from his fiance, saying the 22-year-old was, quote, all-bloody, not breathing, and cold to the touch.

She later told investigators how she left their shared home at around eight in the morning

and lost saw Corey sound asleep in their bed. With coworkers cooperating her alibi, she said
