John Legend has a new album, Alcourt Bigger Love, and I recently sat down with him virtually to talk about that album

I'm not sure that I've ever had a musician schedule an interview for 8 a.m.

before. You should see my schedule all week and all last

week. We've been working early. You know, the bottom line is my kids wake up around 7, 7.30,

so I'm waking up usually that early anyway.

And so I don't keep my old musicians hours.

Was there a time when you kept more standard musicians hours?

Well, when I was a bachelor and young,

you know, I would stay in the studio,

sometimes tell one or two in the morning,

and wake up a little later.

But now I go in usually around noon and I'm done before dinner.

So in the morning I wake up and hang out with the kids. I work out. I do a few calls or whatever to handle some business and then go to the studio and then I'm home by dinner time and I'm done working.

So that's usually my schedule and then when I'm the road, it's obviously a whole different schedule.

You've always struck me as a fantastically disciplined person.
