a former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, a man who has been a leader in the

military and the intelligence communities for decades.

So clearly one of the places that we need to begin here is the recent and perhaps ongoing upheaval that's taking place in the

office you once occupied, the Director of national intelligence.

We had the departure of Dan Coates,

the requested departure of Dan Coates.

We had the effort by the administration to suggest his replacement should be a conservative

congressman from Texas named John Radcliffe.

That did not work out very well for a variety of reasons, most notably associated with his lack of experience in the area.

We then had the departure of the person who should have become the acting director of national intelligence.
