It's unusual.

Later in the podcast will be joined by Amy Trask in a conversation I recorded with the former Raiders executive and current

CBS NFL analyst a couple of weeks ago in Los Angeles when I was out there and of

a week, but first, I should tell you, I'm recording this at the Detroit International Airport.

I'm changing planes, started in New York, early this morning. It's

Monday morning, December 23, close to noon by now, but I change planes here on the

way to San Francisco where I'll join our extended family

for a Christmas celebration that we're really really looking forward to. But first

I want to spend a little bit of time talking about Joe Burrow. Now I don't know

Joe Burrow. He's the quarterback at LSU who won the Heisman Trophy and you'll probably have to pardon me for some

ambient airport, airport noise over the next 10 minutes or so.

But I wanted to just share a story from my football morning in America column this week on NBC Sports.com.

Usually on Monday I do a mini podcast in which I read parts of my column but this week I

wanted to take time as we celebrate the holiday and are with family and talk about some of the things that are really, really important to all of us.

And I wrote something in my column this week about

Joe Burrow who many of you know spent 31 seconds in his Heisman Trophy

acceptance speech and basically talked about how he grew up in

Athens, Ohio and grew up with some people who had major food insecurity in their family.

That's a nice way for saying that some nights they went to bed hungry.
