Summary

In the early 2000s, Jason Derek Brown seemed to be a successful businessman living the "American Dream." But the con man's carefully curated fascade came crashing down on November 29, 2004, when he brutally murdered a 24-year-old armored car guard named Robert Keith Palomares. Brown vanished and remains a fugitive from justice to this day.

Take a look at Brown's FBI poster here: https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/murders/jason-derek-brown

A true crime fiction film called American Murderer recently aired, depicting the life and crimes of Brown.Back in October, The Murder Sheet interviewed Matthew Gentile, the director and screenwriter on American Murderer, his directorial debut. Listen to our talk with Gentile about the story of Brown, the task of depicting a true story, and the ongoing debate over fictionalizing true crime.

American Murderer is available on Amazon, iTunes, and Google Play. It stars Tom Pelphrey, Ryan Philippe, Idina Menzel, Jacki Weaver, Paul Schneider, Shantel VanSanten, Kevin Corrigan, and Moisés Arias.

If you have information on Brown or his whereabouts, contact your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.
