Summary

The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel & Bruce Feldman discuss the latest news in college football. Ohio State is looking at a 6-game regular season because of COVID-19 cancellations. Will the Buckeyes miss the playoff because of a poor strength of schedule? Notre Dame will have a better resume even with a loss to Clemson in the ACC title. The CFB Playoff race is more complicated than ever. Texas A&M, Florida, BYU & Cincinnati are all trying to make their case as one of the 4 best teams. The Big Ten has bungled playing football during the pandemic. College football as a whole has done a terrible job of being transparent about outbreaks. Buffalo RB Jaret Patterson rushed for 409 yards and 8TDs vs. Kent State. Vanderbilt kicker Sarah Fuller is the first female to take the field in power 5 football. Tom Herman’s tenure at Texas is looking like it’s close to the finish line. Plus, mailbag questions!

Welcome to the Audible, presented by Trader Joe's. I'm Stuart Mandel, joined as always by Bruce Feldman on a Sunday morning

0:22.4

after a slate of games that included the Iron Bowl, Friday's Notre Dame UNC game,

0:30.9

a great finish in the Pac-12, and of course history was made on Saturday at Vanderbilt.

0:38.3

But first, Bruce, I want to talk about a team that didn't play, and that is the Ohio State Buckeyes.

0:43.4

I feel like your big new kickoff appearances every week now are always about some teams' COVID situation.

0:52.0

But I think this one that you had to talk about on Saturday with Ohio State,

0:57.4

of all the cancellations we've had to this point, I believe the number is now 100.

1:01.6

This is the first one where it's like, whoa, this situation could actually affect the playoff

1:06.9

race, certainly if Ohio State can't play again next week. So where do we think Ohio State is on

1:15.5

this? And now, and then we'll get into the really bizarre Big Ten setup where they might miss the

1:22.7

title game. Right. So this was obviously a very fluid topic on friday uh night where our reporting was

1:31.3

starting to move that the game was initially going to go from being a noon eastern game

1:38.4

to then to like possibly at four p.m. eastern it was going to be the kickoff and that was I want to say that was

1:45.7

the discussion like Friday around Friday night and then it was well if they go there and get

1:52.0

and they fly into champagne and test then if they get good results then maybe they can play the game at

2:00.8

four if not the game's off.

2:03.1

And then I remember making some calls to other folks in the Big Ten, and they're like, that's, it looks like the game's going to get canceled.

2:10.0

And I don't know, within 15 minutes, it got from that point, it did get canceled.

2:14.8

And then Saturday morning going in and just talking to a lot of people

2:18.7

inside the Ohio State program. They had a bunch of cases come up. They are, I think, not that

2:27.4

optimistic whether they will be able to play a game. It's not looking that promising against Michigan

2:33.2

State this coming week. It's at
