The text for this morning's message comes from John's Gospel.

John Chapter 1, verse 1 through verse 8.

In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was with God and the word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John.

He came for testimony to bear witness to the light that all might believe through him.

He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light.

Now let's remember why this gospel was written.

All right, we'll do this every week, I think,

as long as we're on these first 18 verses.

John 2031, these things are written

that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing

have life in his name. And therefore, as a minister of these words to you this morning, my

goal has to be that you would believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God, and believing have

newness of life in his name. And the reason I say newness of life is because when you read through this gospel,

especially say chapter 10, verse 10, where Jesus distinguishes himself from the thief that comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

He says, I came, they, my sheep, might have life and have it more abundantly.

And that little Greek word Paris on there,

for abundantly means excess, superfluity more than enough.
