So in the first minute or two of this podcast, I often read a complimentary email or two from listeners.

Once or twice, I even read some criticism. Criticism, I think, of you,

if I remember correctly, not of me, of course. Heaven forfend. But actually, here's a complaint

about us. Sarah M.K.S. wrote, I'm not sure if there is really a reason for the intermittent foul

language used by the hosts. They often sound fairly

gratuitous. Maybe one podcast can be devoted to the variety and purpose of such language.

Now, that's a great idea. Yeah, it's a fantastic idea. But as to her criticism, I thought the whole

point of profanity was to be gratuitous.

I don't know about the whole point, but certainly a point. In any case, as it happens,

a wonderful book called Holy Shit, A Brief History of Swering, was published just last month.
