Summary

There have been four major events that caused shortened seasons in Major League Baseball history. In this episode, Andrew goes through the reasons for them and how it impacted the Yankees and other teams around the league – from the 1918-19 seasons being affected by WW1, to the first players’ strike in 1972, the 1981 split season, and the infamous 1994-95 strike. All 2020 events dates are currently TBD. The baseball season is go, go, go. It's nonstop, relentless for every night, six straight months,

0:06.6

and then hopefully another month in October. You also have work, friends, family, and a million

0:11.0

other things going on. That's when you reach for a Coors Light. It's made to chill. There's only

0:15.9

one beer out there that's literally made to chill, and that's Coors Light. I mean, the mountains on

0:20.8

the bottles

0:21.3

and cans even turn blue when your beer is cold is there anything better than opening up your

0:26.5

refrigerator after a long day seeing that icy cold cores light can or bottle in your fridge

0:33.5

answer is no there's nothing better that's why when it's time to chill, you choose Coors Light. It's Mountain Cold Refreshment, made to chill. Coors Light is the one I choose when I need to unwind, so that's why, when you want to hit reset, reach for a beer that's made to chill. Get Coors Light and the new look delivered straight to your door with Drizzly or Instacart. Coors Brewing Company, Golden Colorado, and as always, celebrate. What's up, everyone, welcome to the Bronx Pinstripe show. I'm not going to sign in a number at this point because I don't know when this is coming out. I'm going to try something a little bit different today. Everyone's going through a lot right now. Some people are obviously impacted by the coronavirus and the quarantine more than others.

For many of us, though, what it means is we're stuck at home working and we have more time

1:51.1

on our hands because there's no commuting time. You're looking for things to do. You're watching

1:55.6

more shows on Netflix or whatever. You may be reading a book. You may be doing research on baseball history, which applies to me.

2:05.3

I like going back into the vault of Major League Baseball history, but not just baseball

2:13.1

when it comes to history, world history, the United States history.

2:16.6

There's millions and millions of

2:18.5

hours of content you can consume as it relates to those things. But what I'm going to talk about

2:24.5

today is seasons in which Major League Baseball was shortened for one reason or another. And that's

2:31.3

obviously something we're going to have to deal with this year.

2:34.3

Whenever baseball does start up again in 2020, we all hope it happens sometime this summer.

2:40.0

That seems like best case scenario at this point. May seems off the table. June seems like a best

2:46.4

case scenario, July by all accounts, whether you hear what people are saying that are closely

2:52.9

involved with MLB or just follow the news and listen to scientists and doctors. July probably

3:00.4

seems more likely. So we're going to be dealing with something we have only seen a few times
