Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a big girl named Phoebe who lived in Boston, Massachusetts.

Boston, which was founded about 400 years ago in 1630, was one of the first permanent settlements

in what would become the United States of America. Because Boston has been around for so long,

many of the houses in Boston are older than houses in other parts of the country. As is often the

Phoebe's house. It was an old Victorian mansion, and it had not been maintained as well as it could

have. It had a wooden shutter on one of the windows that was not latched down and would bang in the

wind on stormy days.
