Good morning and welcome to the Independent Republic of Mike Graham.

It's the morning after the night before and there are recriminations of plenty in the wake of the big BBC debate last night between the final five contestants for the highest office in the land.

That's right. Things have got so bad in the world of British politics that it's almost as though we aren't actually watching a competition

to install the next Prime Minister

who will lead us out of the European Union.

The debate was a disaster, it wasn't just that the set was wrong,

or that Emily Macalice was uncharacteristically off her game,

or that Rory Stewart was hamming it up

like some kind of Cambridge Footlights production actor in Hamlet,

or that it all sounded like an argument in a pub. It now turns out that one of the guests selected

to ask a question has written some very questionable anti-Semitic tweets described as extremely

disturbing by one of the BBC's own most senior broadcasters. That's right. Clearly no one

bothered to check Imam Abdullah Patel out in their

haste to try and paint Boris Johnson as islamophobic. It turns out he's also written all manner

of different pieces talking about why girls should not ever be alone with a man and all the rest of it.
