that several eyewitnesses have experienced, phenomena that may be proof

At one time or another, it's likely that we've all experienced the feeling of being watched

only to turn around and realize that no one is there.

This phenomenon has become known as the psychic staring effect, sometimes referred to as

Scopusasia. The idea was first explored by psychologist Edward B. Titchiner in 1898, after students in his junior classes reported being able to feel when somebody was looking at them, even though they could

not see this person.

Titchiner then performed a series of laboratory experiments, which seemed to find mostly negative results.

The effect has been subject of contemporary attention from parapsycologists and fringe researchers

from the 1980s onwards, and has prompted many more studies in recent years that have

led to inconclusive results as well.
