0:03.9	Well, today, that's where we're going.
0:06.9	We're going into the inferno in the 14th century Italian poet, Dante,
0:12.9	Aligere is going to be our guide.
0:16.7	Dante was an Italian poet who shattered the norms of his times by writing
0:22.8	not in Latin, but in a form of vernacular Italian.
0:28.5	He wrote a three-part epic called the divine comedy, which is a trilogy.
0:34.8	The first part is about hell and it's called the inferno.
0:38.5	The middle part is called purgatorio and it's about purgatory.
0:43.0	And the third part, the finale is paradiso and it's about paradise.
0:48.5	Heaven, and today we are going to focus on part one in that trilogy and that is the inferno.

1:02.7	Now Dante is doing fan fiction here.
1:06.8	This is not in the Bible.
1:08.8	It's not even really in Catholic tradition.
1:12.3	And what Dante is doing is he's doing a morality play on the different kinds of sin
1:19.1	in layering those sins from least sinful to most sinful.
