Summary

In November 2010, an emergency fireside was held in Stockholm Sweden by Elder Marlin K. Jensen (Church historian at the time) and Elder Richard Turley (assistant Church historian) to address the faith crisis that ensued among an entire group of members and leaders in Stockholm, Sweden including a stake president and Hans Mattsson, an Area Authority.

About 25 Swedes attended this fireside including all the local bishops and stake presidents. Those in attendance were those that were knowledgeable about the Church historical issues that were troubling many Swedes. The Swedes formed their own local Mormon Stories group and had over 600 Facebook members. They would openly discuss these issues amongst themselves.

Join us as we visit Sweden and relive the “Swedish Rescue” with a panel (Parts 1 & 2) including Hans Mattsson as well as his co-author of the book, “Truth Seeking: The Story of High-Ranking Mormon Leader Hans Mattsson Seeking Sincere Answers From His Church but Instead Finding Contempt, Fear, Doubt …and Eventually Peace,” as well as a counselor to the District Presidency and former Bishop, and finally a Sunday School teacher who at the time of the Swedish Rescue had doubts about the truth claims of the LDS Church.  In Part 3, we invite our Swedish live audience to approach the microphone and share their unique Scandinavian experiences in the LDS Church.

Welcome! Welcome! I'm really, really glad that this event actually took place. I think it was

1:37.0

six months ago so I actually contacted John Delin and said, hey, Hans Mats and just released

1:42.0

a book in Swedish. Did you know about that? And then things started to sort of roll and

1:50.0

eventually we got here. Before we start I like to thank a lot of people because of course there's been

1:57.0

a lot of people who have done a lot of work to make this happen. So first of all I like to

2:04.0

thank Hans and Brigitte and Kristina and Rudolf for everything that you've done to be able to make this

2:13.0

event possible. To be in this venue and you will see many other things that they've done as the event

2:20.0

goes along. I also like to thank Kristoffer, wherever he is, there who's been helping out with a lot of

2:32.0

things that I can't do myself and also Steffan who's been helping with some things I think

2:41.0

is here somewhere. And Joana Tanen Eva, Baltista who's been helping to welcome the American guests

2:52.0

while they're here. And of course John Delin and everyone else from Mormon stories who are here

3:00.0

today. I mean this wouldn't happen if you weren't here. So thank you very much. I'll leave the

3:09.0

time to John Delin and our first happening, the Sweden Rescue Panel discussion. Thank you.
