Summary

If you grow a garden, you know that homegrown vegetables taste better than anything you can purchase in the produce department of your grocery store.

But why do homegrown vegetables and fruit taste better? Is it purely a mental thing -- where we naturally enjoy most what we put our hard work into growing? Or are there also scientific reasons why store-bought tomatoes don't compare to homegrown?

In today's episode of the Beginner's Garden Podcast and post below, I share with you 4 reasons why the fruits and vegetables you grow yourself taste better.

things about this time of year is my grocery list when it comes to the produce department is so

small. I love that. And I certainly hope that you are having that same experience as well.

And if not, maybe you can check out the local

I do take a few

to amaze me how people react to my homegrown blueberries. They will tell me that they are

the best blueberries that they have ever tasted. I get text messages when the kids

have eaten half the blueberries that they've bought before they even get home. And because I haven't

bought a store-bought blueberry in so many years, I think that I take that for granted sometimes

1:57.4

that, yes, my fresh-picked blueberries do taste that much better than what you can

get at the store. But that definitely doesn't stop with blueberries. You can find that to be the

case in just about everything you grow. And while we all know that homegrown tastes better,

I thought it would be fun to talk about the reasons why. Last spring,

I was invited to my son's sixth grade science class, not just his, but the whole day of

sixth graders, I was invited to come and teach about gardening. And I taught about several different
