Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of Romans with Romans 10.

As we jump back into the book of Romans,

we're again dealing with the issue of Christ as a sacrifice. And the author continues,

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming, not the realities themselves.

For this reason, it can never, by the same sacrifices, repeated endlessly

year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. If it could, would they not have

stopped being offered? For the worshippers would have been cleansed once for all all and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins,

but those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

So the author is leading up to this issue of Christ's sacrifice and says,

look at the sacrificial system, basically. Look at how every year they continue to do sacrifices.

And he says that basically that continuity, that fact that they continue to do it, is itself an argument that this system was

incomplete.

Remember, he's writing to a Hebrew audience, and so he's writing to an audience that he's trying

to move from one system to the other.

He is potentially writing to people who are not yet Christian, but he is certainly trying to

emphasize where Christ is compared to this old sacrificial system.

And so he says, notice how that if it had worked, if the blood of goats, if the blood of bulls

had been sufficient to take away our sins, to take away our guilt,

then we would have stopped.
