I have a great show for you. My guest is Lynn Steiger Strong. She's got a new novel out from

Mariner Books. It is called The Float Test.

And it is a book about family and secrets and complicated love, deep love, complicated familial bonds, unbreakable, though tested and challenging, lots of backstory, lots of intimacies, lots of tensions and betrayals, that kind of

stuff, family stuff. And it's the kind of stuff that Lynn Steger Strong really excels at as a writer.

She can take the domestic, the everyday, the stuff of just everyday human life, and she can make it riveting. And the float

test is, like, I would characterize it as like kind of a continuation of this body of work that

Lynn has been building. I've talked to her on this show before, and I know her work. And the

float test is like of a piece with that work, but it's also something that she has been working toward.

And I think she says as much, if not in this interview, though maybe in this interview.

I know she has said it in interviews that she has done in support of this book, that the float test, you know, it's her Florida book.

And she's been wanting to write a Florida book, but maybe didn't

quite know how to do it or what the story was or what was the way in. And it was a little bit

intimidating because Florida is a place that means a lot to Lynn. It's where she's from. She loves it,

but it's complicated. And I think she really wanted to do it justice. And in the

float test, she does. So a really great conversation with Lynn. It's always wonderful talking
