apartments are kind of a pain, and you have to deal with brokers who are quite a handful to deal with.

That's a whole thing in New York, huh? Even in San Francisco, I never had to deal with a rental broker.

Yeah, it's a thing.

You have to pay them a giant fee that comes out to usually around one-month's rent.

And since one-month's rent is super expensive here also, you wind up throwing down just like, or ridiculous this amount of money.
