I just thought I'd pop in at the very start of the story to say

this is a story where it gets a bit rough in parts.

It's venturing into an area I don't normally go into, but I do think it's very important to tell this story

because I think some of the courage of the people involved is incredible and that makes it worth telling.

I'll be as gentle with the facts as I can be.

Can you change someone?

I'm asking that very seriously.

Can you?

Can you alter someone's mind?

Someone's way of life, their desires, their feelings, in fact, their very being,

can you change that? Let me ask you this. Has anyone ever described you as difficult? Has anyone ever described you as difficult?

Has anyone ever described you as troubled?

Well, can we change those things in people?

Is it possible that we could ever change someone's behaviour?

We could try.

But surely trying that would be absolutely horrendous for the person involved.

But does that matter?
