We are in the middle of summer.

And if there's anything that screams summer to me,

besides watermelon and cantaloupe, which we talked about in last week's episode, it's homegrown,

fresh corn on the cob. Does anyone else love that about summer? Well, corn was not something I actually

grew my first year. I'm not really sure why,

but it's something that came along later. And I had high hopes, but I also did not realize

that even though corn is not that hard to grow, it can be very hard to know when to harvest it.

In fact, my first year, I grew a whole lot of corn

with nothing to show for it because I didn't harvest at the proper time. So today we're going to be

talking about how to know when to harvest corn. Because if you're growing sweet corn in your garden

and you've put all the effort and space aside to do so because

corn does require more space than most other crops, then you want to make sure that you get the most

harvest. If you're not growing corn this year, but it's something that you would like to do in the

future, I do want to refer you back to two previous episodes where I talked about growing corn.

Episode number 17, I talked about how to grow corn.

And then in episode number 61, it was last year's episode on lessons I learned from my summer garden.

And one thing that I learned is that you can plant corn in raised beds.

And I planted one entire corn planting in one raised bed,

and it pollinated pretty well, not as well as if I had had more corn, more space for it.

But if you're limited in space, that doesn't mean you can't grow corn. So definitely listen back
